Leyton Más

The People's Carnival

Sunday 21 July 2024

Overall the Leyton Más Community Arts programme, People’s Parade and Carnival Fête made significant contributions to creating social value in the community, making substantial impacts on:

Improved Physical and Mental Wellbeing

Participation in community Carnival Arts activities promoted physical health through music, movement and masquerade; and supported mental wellbeing by providing a creative outlet for self-expression, collaboration, participation and joy; contributing to healthier, happier lives for participants.

Strengthened Social Cohesion and Inclusivity

A programme of free and accessible Carnival Arts activities brought together people from culturally and economically diverse backgrounds, helping to break down barriers and build trust between communities. By celebrating shared cultural expressions, participants , contributors and audiences experienced a greater sense of belonging and mutual respect, strengthening community resilience and social bonds.

Economic Empowerment and Skills Development

These activities provided opportunities for local artists, performers, and vendors to showcase their work, and along with the increased footfall, they contributed positively to the local economy.  We also offered employment, accredited training, work experience and mentorship in the creative industries, enhancing job prospects, especially for young people, and helping create a more economically resilient community.
